Why do all my books seem to have legs?
I swear - they know when I'm looking for them and walk away....just for the hell of it!

Biographies about Marie de Rohan
Much to my delight, their are several biographies about the major characters used in Weave a Garland.
As always, some are better than others but all have been enormously helpful. Here are Marie's ~
A Fair Conspirator, Marie de Rohan, Duchesse de Chevreuse - Hugh Noel Williams
The Intriguing Duchess, Marie de Rohan, Duchesse de Chevreuse - Dorothy de Brissac Campbell
Marie de Rohan, Duchesse de Chevreuse - Michael Prawdin (the first one I read)
The Duchesse de Chevreuse: A Life of Intrigue and Adventure in the Days of Louis XIII - Louis Batiffol (my favourite)
Secret History of the French Court Under Richelieu and Mazarin - Victor Cousin (another favourite but dealing more with the latter part of Marie's life.)

17th Century France
Researching this novel brought to light the fact that many books ignore the simple truth that the 17th century in France started in 1600 and not 1643 when Louis XIV came to the throne.
So very much happened during those first 40 years of the century. But the best bits are hidden slightly deeper than anything to do with the Sun King's reign.
It has added to the ongoing search in a wonderful way though!
